Welcome CapU Faculty

Capilano University Faculty Association (CFA) has proudly represented Capilano faculty since 1969. What began as 19 instructors has grown to a union of more than 600 working across the lower mainland and Sunshine Coast and up the Sea to Sky corridor to Squamish and Ts’zil.

The CFA supports faculty in all aspects of their work, including workload, professional development, access to benefit plans, fair and open processes such as evaluation, appointments, and involvement in university governance at multiple levels. We are here to support faculty in making CapU a fantastic place to work and learn.

Through this union, your voice is welcome and important.

We will also be celebrating Reini Klein’s retirement!

After more than 25 years of dedicated service to Capilano University and the CFA, Reini is off to enjoy a well-deserved retirement. Please join us in celebrating his many contributions to the CapU community and wishing Reini all the best as he begins this exciting new chapter.

John Wilson Award - Fall 2026

Fall 2026 applications for the John Wilson Award are now open. 

To be eligible, the applicant must be a dependant or spouse of a regular faculty member or of a non‐regular faculty member who has two or more sections of work in the current academic year. The submission deadline is Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 11:59pm.

Bargaining Bulletin #6: Negotiations Resume

On 18 September we resumed negotiations with the University administration to renew our Collective Agreement (CA). This followed a break over the summer during which the administration was onboarding new members of their team, including a new spokesperson.

Short version: There is a lot of bargaining still left to do, but we have an opportunity to make significant improvements, and to obtain a boost to the CapU budget in the process (along with increasing faculty salaries 3% per year, effective from April 2025 onwards). We are committed to doing all we can to reach a deal before the end of 2026.

Fall 2026 Term Commences

Welcome back faculty!

We hope that you had a great summer vacation. Classes are set to begin at 4:00pm Tuesday, September 8th following the conclusion of student orientation and street party events. On Wednesday morning classes resume at 8:30am.

Faculty Parking ePermit Application: Fall 2026

Dear Faculty,

If you arrive on campus between 8:45 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and require access to the designated "Special Permit" parking areas, please review the updated process and eligibility criteria below.

Eligibility & Process

  • Eligibility: Faculty members with classes scheduled to begin before 8:45am are not eligible for this permit. Qualification criteria have been revised for this cycle; detailed requirements are outlined on the application form.

  • Campus Map: View the official Capilano University Parking Map on the university website to locate spaces marked "Employees with special permit."

  • How to Apply: Complete and submit the Online Parking ePermit Application Form. All requests must be submitted through this online portal.

The CFA's work takes place on the sovereign and unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəỷəm (Musqueam), 'shíshálh (Sechelt), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and SəỈílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

The CFA honours the sacred relationships to land, waterways, and the natural world of the Host Nations since time immemorial. The CFA stands in solidarity with Indigenous struggles for justice and liberation in face of ongoing attempted genocide, colonial oppression, and occupation.

This land acknowledgment was articulated by the CFA's Indigenous Faculty Committee.
